Portraits of a DC Sculpture Garden : My thanks to Chris - who let me use his DSLR as I forgot mine at work. Well,I mostly acted as a light meter for him as he was shooting his medium format, the whole goal of the excursion it seems, was to get the crouching women on medium format b&w. It was a bit cold, but I had a good time. haven't done much portrait type material, so I figured I would give it a shot on things that wouldn't move.

Foxhill Park, Bowie MD 11/17/07 -UPDATED : Fall colors, 5 hours to chill and read a book, my camera, cool temperatures and wind rustling through the trees, People playing flag football in the field behind where I was sitting - I was able to relax a bit. UPDATED -- I reprocessed a few pictures from RAW in DPP, and a little photoshop. The landscapes are all similar - desaturated about 50%, contrast 20%, and increased sharpness. I think it give a dark, Halloween type feel.

A study on Rock, Water, and Ice : (UPDATE _ the first several have been processed) These shots were taken on the Little Patuxent River, about 200 yards up from the Savage Mill, In Savage Md. I plan on doing a bit more processing on these, as they are just processed with Photoshop Raw processor. This was kind of a unexpected find for me, so I was not prepared for long exposure shots, as I didn't have my Tripod with me. I used my mini tripod w/ the bendy feet for all shots under a 1/15 sec and when my hands were to cold to hold the camera steady.

Savage Mill, on a gloomy day : I had a plan to go out and shoot, but it was overcast. So I went out and shot anyway. This was my first chance to play with the 70-200, an I also did a little low light stuff with my 50 1.8.

Bowie 10-13/14-07 : This weekend I spent some time with my sister (Ambler) and we went to Patuxent National Wildlife sanctuary, where unbenownst to us there was a wildlife festival (which means a bunch of little people running around scaring away wildlife) and a wildlife photographic toutorial (sponserd by Penn Camera and Tamron) . Now one would expect that this would not be the best combination of events, as the photographic toutorial went from wildlife to portraiture, in the lobby. I did get to ogle at and play with some incrediable lenses ( I now want the 180 L Macro, and well everything else) over all it was fun. Sunday I spent at Foxhill again, reading and taking pictures when I felt like it. I was fealing a bit abstract, so the subject in some of these pictures is either the color, or the lack of subject.

Old Rag 8/07 : Lessons learned on this trip - 1) Its hard to take pictures in the dark (especially when the largest aperture you can get is 4.0 @ 17mm and no remote shutter release) 2) Wind will mess up even the best focus (and no the IS lens will not help that). 3) Plan more time when taking pictures in the dark because Chris likes to take 3-5 min. exposures .... which leads to #4. 4) Rushing up the Rock Scramble to get to the summit before the sun comes up because we took to long at the first false summit - SUCKS. 5) Tortellinis and black coffee at 6:30 am = Incredibly Awesome. 6) Long exposures (1/2 - 1 sec. or more) of waterfalls with alot of water, and a tight in shot, stink as the shot over exposes and generally turns into a soft blurry mess. 7) The term "Silence is Golden" can be extended to cover the "noise" generated in Digital Photography, however, this noise can not be cured through the use of duct tape. That is all.

Ducklings7-07 : These pictures were taken on my jaunt through DC 7/07. The World War 2 memorial has several pools that flow over waterfalls from the reflecting pool into it. These ducklings were apparently washed over said waterfall into the pool 4 ft below. Their mother was not happy (as is depicted in the first picture). The Ranger said it happens all the time, but by the look of that momma duck, not to her ducklings.

DC 7/07, Canon : I went to the National Zoo this weekend, and all that really did for me was make me want a long lens even more. Its pretty bad when the most interesting thing you can find to take pictures of at the Zoo are insects outside and nautiloids in the dark. I then went to wandering around DC for the afternoon, I will upload a few more later.
